Finch Cafe/restaurant
Tucked away in the creative heart of East London, Finch Cafe/restaurant at 12 Sidworth Street, E8 3SD, is the kind of place that doesn’t just serve coffee - it sets a whole vibe. Whether you're a freelancer looking for a cozy laptop-friendly spot, a foodie chasing bold flavors, or just someone craving a decent decaf latte, Finch delivers on multiple fronts.
First things first - the atmosphere. This isn’t your standard cookie-cutter café. There's a casual, artsy energy flowing through the space, amplified by the regular live performances that add character and rhythm to your meal. The outdoor seating is a bonus, perfect for those rare sunny London days or just a change of scenery from your home office. Accessibility-wise, Finch does well by offering a wheelchair-accessible entrance, which isn't always guaranteed in this part of town.
Let’s talk food. The Falafel is an absolute standout - crispy on the outside, soft and spiced inside, paired beautifully with hummus and warm pita bread. It's one of those dishes you order thinking it’ll be a quick bite, and then end up savoring like a fine meal. The Avo and Scrambled Eggs hits all the right notes for a solid brunch - creamy, herby, and generously portioned. If you're after something sweet and satisfying, the flapjack comes highly recommended - especially alongside a decaf latte, which is surprisingly flavorful and not the watery kind you sometimes get elsewhere.
And about the drinks - this place knows its beans. The coffee here is consistently praised, with a great balance between strength and smoothness. But it's not just about caffeine - Finch offers a great tea selection as well. Think more than just English Breakfast or Earl Grey - we're talking delicate herbal blends and bold infusions. For those looking for something stronger, the café also serves alcohol, beer, and wine, making it a casual evening hangout as much as it is a breakfast and lunch hub.
The desserts deserve their own shoutout. Whether you’re into classic comfort or curious to try something a little different, there’s always something tempting behind the counter. And yes, Finch isn’t just doing desserts for the sake of it - they’re done well, rich in flavor, and often made in-house with a rustic presentation that suits the space.
One thing that keeps bringing people back is how flexible the space is. It's popular for breakfast and lunch, but it doesn’t feel rushed or crowded. The layout makes it great for solo dining, and many regulars come in just to work quietly for hours. You’ll find writers, designers, students - all zoning into their flow with the help of a cappuccino or two.
Another reason Finch Cafe/restaurant stands out is its dedication to healthy options. Whether you're gluten-free, plant-based, or just watching what you eat, there's always something nourishing on the menu that doesn’t feel like a compromise. It’s the kind of place where health-conscious choices aren’t an afterthought - they’re integrated seamlessly into the menu.
In terms of service, Finch is efficient without being pushy, and the staff seem to genuinely enjoy working there - which makes a difference. Orders are taken quickly, and the turnaround is fast enough for those on a lunch break, but the relaxed atmosphere means you never feel rushed to leave. The takeaway option also means you can grab something good on the go, and still avoid the usual high-street fast-food trap.
The location itself is a win. Nestled near Hackney’s buzzing art studios and startup offices, Finch fits perfectly into its neighborhood - unpretentious, creative, and community-focused. Whether you're just passing through or planning to make it your regular spot, Finch Cafe/restaurant finds that sweet spot between quality, comfort, and character.

Supper yummy and reasonably priced wraps and bowls. I had the halloumi and mushroom wrap.
I popped in to do a couple of hours work on a Monday Morning for a change of scenery and I'm so glad I did! From the minute I walked through the door I received a warm welcome and was quickly seated. Nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious, I had the scrambled egg on toast. The decor has been well considered to create a warm, welcoming, calm and relaxed environment. I'll definitely be visiting again soon.
Literally love this place. I always get the avocado and mushroom or halumi and mushroom wrap and it’s so cheap and do delicious
I love this cafe, the hummus is especially delicious and better than I've has anywhere else. The staff are nice and the atmosphere is good. It's slightly off the beaten track, so it's a quiet location. Definitely recommend popping in if you're in the area.
Thank you for providing diners with real, reusable mugs, dishware, and silverware. By 2050, there will be more plastic in the ocean than fish. And over 95% of the plastic that we produce and consume does not actually get recycled. But rather ends up in landfills, incinerators, and our oceans. As a customer, it means a lot to me to be able to support local businesses that are helping us to our part to be better to this earth. So keep up the great options! One thing I was sad to see was the sale of plastic bottled water here. I wonder if you might consider switching to aluminum canned water, or water in glass bottles. The normalization of single use plastics has numbed us all to our overconsumption of it, and it would be really cool to see businesses fighting back against the plastic pollution crisis by limiting the sale of the stuff in the first place. Thank you for considering, and thank you for the wonderful food and service. And for of course, offering a relatively trash-free meal!
